Woodland Christian Middle School Serve-A-Thon
Thank you to the students from Woodland Christian School for selecting our garden to offer their services – a day of planting veggies, tilling in a cover crop, and learning about new vegetables and careers in agriculture from Syngenta. We were so happy that the rain stayed away long enough for them to help us out!
“In one group of students planting beets, I had asked if they had ever tasted a beet before and none of them had! The instructor will be scheduling volunteer time for the students so they will be able to taste those beets at harvest. Another fabulous story of the day - Juan prepared his famous avocado toast piled high with endive and edible flowers for the students to be served after they worked up a sweat and at first, only four students would try it. Then soon after the four raved about the delicious morsel, then more students lined up to taste until at last an empty plate! One student said they would try it without all that green stuff and another said that's the best part!” Monique Garcia, Garden Manager.
